When I was in high school we shot our bows all the time. After going off to college, work, and them moving to Brandon I have only picked up the bow to go fishing here in there. For the last 3 years, it rode in my camper set up to for bow fishing and even then i did not go much. Now the bow has sight and release I need to learn how to shoot. With no formal training other than gym class which I passed most of the other students my form is not the best. I have about 50 days till spring turkey season which i hope it will be enough time for me to get my 20-yard shot lockdown.

week 2 target

After a slight adjustment to the sights, I am now closer to the 5 ring. My goal by turkey season is to have all shot inside the 4 ring right now I’m at about 50/50 one more adjustment to the sight will make a difference.

Today I meet the first goal I had set and that was to the loss of 15 lb. I able to complete it two days early. The hard work is paying off. The pants are starting to fit better and overall feeling better. I have set my next goal to lose 20 lb in the next 36 days.

Project Kodiak is my first real attempt to enter into the world of archery hunting. The only catch is I plan on using the bow I bought back in the late ’90s a Bear Kodiak. The serial number tag says 1990 so this a 30-year-old bow this year.

Our journey starts at of all place Wallmart were they were closing out some archery gear I pick up a release and whiskers biscuit. After installing the whisker biscuit I realized shooting down the arrow will not work So upgrade where need. Thanks to the great guy over at Archer’s Addiction on the Renner exit of I-29 he hooked me up with new string, sight, peep sight and release loop.

When i pick up the bow last week he took the time to help me sight for 20 yards. We made the first adjustment and took some time to shoot it looks like I am going to need a lot of practice to get good enough for hunting.

New year new projects are coming

The name of the game in 2020 is finding new ways to spend more time hunting and fishing. To make this happen I have come up with some new projects for 2020.

  • Project Kodiak
  • Project Grizzly
  • Project 40
  • Project R3
  • Project 6.5

There are going to be a few more projects this year this is going to be the main focus.

Project Kodiak

This is my 1990 compound bow i had seen the late 90’s for most of its life it been abused and neglected this year it gets a facelift. I will tack it and my progress into the world of archery.

Project Grizzly

This is my 2008 Grizzly ATV. I have had it since new and been on few trail rides and mostly get used in the winter for ice fishing. This year I will be expanding its usefulness. In the state of South Dakota, we can drive our ATV on the roads so be on the lookout for some adventure close to home.

Project 40

This year I will turn 40 and this is the year to make big life changes. Project 40 is the embodiment of making these changes. the goal of losing 110 lb of weight over the next year and to drop bellow a size 40 waist. Progress has started and down 13 lb so far.

Project R3

R3 stands for recruitment, retention, and reactivation of hunters. This next year I plan on working with different wildlife conservation groups. To create a plan for our area to engage new hunters and to reactivate old hunters.

Project 6.5

6.5 Creedmore is a Savage Axis XP is a rifle i pickup up last year. The goal of this project is to make a hunting rifle with MOA accuracy and the ability to shot out to 600 yards. From everything I have read this should be doable and the max range in the field will be limited to around 400-500 what my range finder can do.

Check back often to see the update on my project. Thank you for your time and remember to share your time and help mentor a new hunter

2018 Duck hunting opener

Yesterday was a great morning for the South Dakota duck opener. We were hunting out by Humboldt South Dakota there’s plenty of ducks and plenty of duck hunters. This was going to be Sadie’s first hunt I was excited to get into the field. We ended up setting a small decoy spread with around one and a half dozen decoys. Sadie was able to find most of the ducks there is only one long retrieve that I couldn’t work her into so she ended up with 6  out of the 7 ducks that we got.
